The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) intends to procure NetApp Appliance Storage products as a direct upgrade to its existing Network Appliance Storage units purchased in May 2006. This procurement is justified as a brand name acquisition under FAR Part 11, ensuring compatibility and manufacturer warranty support since only Network Appliance Storage components can seamlessly integrate with the current systems. The acquisition will follow simplified acquisition procedures under FAR Part 13 and utilize small business set-asides through existing USPTO Blanket Purchase Agreements for IT products. This approach aligns with the USPTO Technical Reference Model (TRM), which sets standards and guides the selection of technology products to maintain and develop the agency's Automated Information Systems. Ensuring proper compatibility with the current storage infrastructure is critical because using non-NetApp products may void warranties and lead to integration issues, which could impact mission-critical operations such as Enterprise Remote Access and Teleworking. The solicitation is not a formal request for proposals but rather a notification that supports the continued use of standardized, commercially proven storage solutions. Inquiries regarding this procurement can be directed to the designated Contracting Officer, Sylvia Van Dyke, at the listed contact information.
