Chevron USA Inc. proposes to sidetrack 1 existing wells to restore to original functionality. The work is designed to support continuation of oil and gas resource development in the area. A well sidetrack is a drilling and completions process of that utilizes an existing well conductor and wellbore to drill a new wellbore away from the original wellbore. Chevron has submitted CalGEM NOIs requesting to sidetrack to a new bottom hole target using the existing wellbore. In the program Chevron requests to plug back the original wellbore and then initiate the sidetrack to the new bottom hole location. The new perforations will then occur in the new wellbore. The wells will then be returned to production utilizing existing pipeline and facilities production infrastructure. Sidetracking of the well will allow for continued mineral resource development. Currently the well proposed for sidetracking is damaged to the extent that their functionality has been impaired and cannot be repaired; therefore, the purpose of the sidetrack is to restore functionality. The well will operate within the existing completion zone and continue to operate consistent with past and current use. Water used during the sidetrack operation will be metered, reclaimed produced water, approximately 750 barrels. Temporary equipment such as pumps and return bins may be needed. Various mobile temporary equipment will be used including, but not limited to, backhoe, crane and rework rig, etc., and vehicles to transport personnel and materials to/from the site. No new production facilities or new ground disturbance will take place. Any waste materials will be properly disposed of in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
The proposed project consists of the California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) approving 1 permit for Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to perform sidetrack work on the well listed below, in the Midway-Sunset Oil Field.
