The Department of Veterans Affairs, through its SAO West, Network Contracting Office 19, has issued a Notice of Intent to award a sole source commercial purchase order for an Endo Bronchial Ultra Sound Scope (EB-1970UK). This specialized medical equipment is designed to operate exclusively with the Hitachi 5500 ultrasound processor and the Pentax EPK-1000 and EPK-I video processors, making it proprietary to these systems. The purchase is intended to support the Veterans Affairs Medical Center located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The government has identified Pentax of America, Inc. as the sole capable supplier to meet this requirement, aligning with the Federal Acquisition Regulation guidelines that prioritize government supply sources and allow for limited source justification. Although this notice serves primarily for information purposes and does not constitute a solicitation for bids, the Department of Veterans Affairs invites any responsible sources under government contract to submit a brief technical response if they believe their products can meet the agency’s needs despite the proprietary nature of the scope. Responses must be concise, no longer than two pages, and provide evidence regarding the ability to circumvent proprietary restrictions, including their government contract number. Interested parties are instructed to direct inquiries solely via email to the identified contracting specialist, with phone calls not accepted. The contract follows the Federal Acquisition Circular provisions in effect as of November 2011 and pertains to the surgical and medical instrument manufacturing industry sector with a size standard of 500 employees.
