The Federal Aviation Administration intends to procure three Precision Runway Monitor systems from the original equipment manufacturer, Raytheon. This acquisition includes the installation of the systems, necessary spares, training, and engineering services. These non-developmental items are designed to facilitate simultaneous and independent Instrument Flight Rules approaches at airports where parallel runways are spaced less than 4,300 feet apart. The FAA has determined that procuring these systems from Raytheon is in the best interest of the government to ensure configuration standardization across the National Airspace System and to avoid unacceptable delays. The systems will be identical in configuration to those currently produced by Raytheon, leveraging the company's specific expertise in maintenance and training concepts for this certified technology.
