AI Contract Overview

NASA Langley Research Center is offering license rights for a carbon fiber reinforced composite technology with self-healing properties developed by their scientists. This innovative material is designed to effectively repair damage from low to mid velocity impacts, maintaining structural integrity without the need for traditional, more damaging repair methods such as grinding or drilling. The composite is fabricated using a pre-impregnated unidirectional carbon fiber preform combined with a self-healing polymer, resulting in aerospace-quality laminates exhibiting significant reductions in internal damage, validated by ASTM impact testing standards. License rights may be exclusive or nonexclusive, potentially limited to specific fields of use, and no funding is provided by NASA for commercialization efforts. Companies interested in obtaining licensing rights are invited to express their interest via email, providing their contact details, background, and the nature of their interest. NASA aims to gauge market interest to facilitate potential licensing agreements, which if pursued, will undergo formal procedures including posting in the Federal Register. This opportunity supports the commercialization and manufacturing of advanced aerospace materials and contributes to ongoing innovation in structural repair technologies without anticipated procurement from responses to this notice.

Full Description

NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA solicits inquiries from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the following technology. License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses. THE TECHNOLOGY: Scientists at NASA Langley Research Center have developed carbon fiber reinforced composites with self-healing properties. The initiation and propagation of damage to carbon composites, such as in aircraft structural components, results in component failure. Typical structural repairs result in damaging practices, where material is ground away and holes are drilled to secure patches, which can act as new sites for damage. This technology exhibits effective self-repair that heals quickly following low to mid velocity impacts, while retaining structural integrity. The composite fabrication process cycle was developed from composite precursor materials developed at LaRC to fabricate composite laminates. The precursor material is a pre-impregnated unidirectional carbon fiber preform, or pre-preg. In the pre-pregging process, the high strength, structural reinforcing carbon fiber is wetted by a solution containing a self-healing polymer. The resulting material is of aerospace quality and exhibits a significant decrease of internal damage following impacts tests (using ASTM D 7137 standard). NASA is seeking to license this technology commercially. To express interest in this opportunity, please respond to contact@example.gov with the title of this Technology Transfer Opportunity as listed in this FBO notice and your preferred contact information. Please also provide the nature of your interest in the technology along with a brief background of your company. For more information about licensing other NASA-developed technologies, please visit the NASA Technology Transfer Portal at http://technology.nasa.gov/ . These responses are provided to members of NASA Langleys Office of Strategic Analysis and Business Development OSACB for the purpose of promoting public awareness of NASA-developed technology products, and conducting preliminary market research to determine public interest in and potential for future licensing opportunities. If direct licensing interest results from this posting, OSACB will follow the required formal licensing process of posting in the Federal Register. No follow-on procurement is expected to result from responses to this Notice.

Enabling Technology for Future Missions
Solicitation # 9F063-20260085
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is soliciting proposals under the Space Technology Development Program (STDP) to develop and advance one to three priority technologies intended to reduce technical uncertainties for future Canadian space missions. This fixed-price procurement focuses on increasing Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) in accordance with CSA-ST-GDL-0001 Revision A guidelines. The identified priority technologies include a lightweight athermal reflecting telescope for CubeSats, readout electronics for large mosaic focal plane arrays, and technologies for the Ground Snow Mass Mission, with maximum funding per contract ranging from 1 million to 2 million Canadian dollars. The project is expected to span 16 months, structured around five key milestones: a kick-off meeting, preliminary design review, detailed design review and work authorization meeting, test readiness review, and a final review meeting. Selection is based on the highest combined rating of technical merit (60%) and price (40%), with additional points available for Indigenous considerations. The contract requires strict adherence to security protocols, including Protected B and Reliability Status, and mandates the use of the Information Sharing with External Partners portal for sensitive data transfers. Performance is subject to rigorous inspection and acceptance processes for both hardware and software, including a 90-day warranty period for custom software.

Grant
Expression of interest: Small-satellite missions sandpit
Solicitation # 206083
UK Research and Innovation is seeking expressions of interest for a small-satellite missions sandpit designed to bring together approximately 30 researchers and innovators from diverse disciplines. The goal is to co-develop ambitious, challenge-led small-satellite mission concepts focusing on innovative sensors, data streams, and cross-sector enabling technologies to enhance sovereign capability, address national security and societal challenges, and support economic growth. The activity consists of six sessions held between January 26 and February 11, 2027, utilizing a combination of online sessions and a two-day residential event. Total program funding is listed at 1,870,000, with the objective of developing concepts for pump-priming research grants in 2027/2028. Selection of participants is based on core assessment questions focusing on skills and potential contributions rather than track record, with additional consideration given to geographic diversity across all UK regions. Applicants must apply through an Expression of Interest stage, and invited applicants will use the Resume for Research and Innovation format. Mandatory attendance at all sessions is required, with travel and subsistence costs reimbursed and accommodation provided for overnight stays. The program is managed by the UKRI Space Programme team, with the response deadline for the solicitation set for November 25, 2026.

Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Destination Contract (CLDC) Technical Library
Solicitation # 80JSC025_CLDC_TECH_LIBRARY
The Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Destination Contract (CLDC) Technical Library, managed by the NASA Johnson Space Center, serves as a centralized repository of technical standards, plans, and guidelines for potential offerors. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to support the development of private LEO space destinations and supporting systems as NASA prepares for the retirement of the International Space Station. The library provides a series of data drops containing both controlled and uncontrolled technical data, including standards for docking systems, payload interfaces, and crew health operations. It also outlines specific NASA center capabilities and high-value engineering products available to industry partners to reduce technical and schedule risks. It is important to note that this activity is a special notice and does not constitute a Request for Proposals, Invitation for Bid, or Request for Quotation. No proposals are to be submitted in response to this notice, and it does not represent a commitment by the government to enter into a contract. Access to export-controlled content requires the submission of a specific request form and compliance with U.S. export regulations, including the implementation of Technology Transfer Control Plans and Non-Disclosure Agreements for foreign nationals. The library is intended to keep industry updated on current NASA technical standards in anticipation of future FAR-based acquisitions.
