The U.S. Army RDECOM Contracting Center intends to award a 12 month firm fixed price research and development service contract to Darin VanDerwalker of Nashua, NH. This project focuses on the creation of virtual polymer materials using specialized software to simulate polymer flows and viscosity profiles. The contractor will utilize a capillary rheometer to gather apparent viscosity and shear rate data, which will inform the selection of materials for subsequent laboratory scale extrusion processing using a layer multiplying co extrusion system. In addition to simulation and modeling, the contractor is responsible for conducting film processing trials, characterization, sample preparation, and material testing for thermal, mechanical, transport, and barrier properties. Regular reports must be submitted to the Advanced Materials and Engineering Team of the Combat Feeding Directorate. This presolicitation, identified by solicitation number PR90129-170138, serves to determine the feasibility of future competitive procurements.
