A -- advanced Inertial Reference Unit (Adv-IRU) prototype

This contract involves the development of an advanced Inertial Reference Unit (Adv-IRU) prototype intended to support next-generation airborne and tactical systems, with an additional requirement to demonstrate an upgrade path or variant design suitable for future space-based electro-optical systems. The project is structured into a basic contract and two option phases. The basic contract spans 10 months, where the contractor is tasked with producing a preliminary system design, finalizing the critical design for long lead hardware items supported by vendor quotes, and delivering a comprehensive final report. Following the initial phase, the first option extends over 13 months and focuses on procuring government-approved long lead hardware, completing the critical design for the airborne prototype, and developing the design variant for space applications. The second option, lasting 16 months, involves fabricating, assembling, testing, and delivering the Adv-IRU prototype. This effort is managed under the Department of Defense’s AFRL at Kirtland Air Force Base, emphasizing a phased development approach to ensure readiness for both airborne and space-based deployments.
