The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) plans to modify a contract with Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors (MS2) to enhance a Japanese KONGO-Class Aegis destroyer with the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Block 2004 capability. This work involves system engineering, computer program development or modification, equipment procurement, training, and program management necessary for integrating the advanced BMD system for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces under a Foreign Military Sale. Lockheed Martin MS2, as the Combat System Engineering Development Agent for both the Aegis Weapon System and the Aegis BMD Program, is the sole provider with the technical expertise and resources required for this work. The contract is structured as a cost plus award fee modification with performance extending through January 2009. Given Lockheed Martin MS2's unique position and technical qualifications, this contract will be awarded under sole source provisions, acknowledging that no other vendor can meet Navy requirements for this program. Entities interested in subcontracting opportunities are directed to contact Lockheed Martin MS2 directly. The synopsis emphasizes the availability of contract information on both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) and Navy Electronic Commerce Online (NECO) platforms.
