THE UNITED STATES ARMY LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT COMMAND WILL BE ISSUING A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) FOR ASSESSMENT OF THE FEASIBILITY OF INNOVATIVE OR NOVEL APPROACHES AS PARTIAL OR FULL SOLUTIONS FOR DESULFURIZING JP8 FUEL. THESE APPROACHES MAY INCLUDE THE USE OF NOVEL SORBENTS SUCH AS METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK (MOF) COMPOUNDS, FRACTIONATION OF HIGH SULFUR CONSTITUENTS, AND/OR OTHER INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO REGENERATION THROUGH SURFACE FUNCTIONALIZATION OR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES (E.G. MICROWAVE). A SUCCESSFUL DESULFURIZER WILL REMOVE CONTAMINANTS SUCH AS SULFUR FROM A REFORMER?S REFORMATE STREAM WHICH WILL PREVENT DEGRADATION OF A DOWNSTREAM FUEL CELL POWER GENERATOR. THIS PROJECT WILL LOOK AT BOTH NEAR TERM AND LONG TERM DESULFURIZATION OPTIONS AS WELL AS SYSTEM EVALUATION AND VALIDATION OF EACH SOLUTION.
