Full Description

The National Weather Service (NWS), Alaska Region, a line office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), under the Department of Commerce (DOC) provides weather forecasting and data collection across the state of Alaska. To accomplish this mission, the NWS has three Weather Forecast Offices (WFO) and eleven (11) Weather Service Offices (WSO) and associated employee housing in Alaska. The use of fuel oil is widely used for heating within NWS facilities. The existing fuel tanks, fuel tank foundations, cathodic protection systems, fuel delivery systems, and fuel monitoring systems have exceeded design life. The sites are exposed to varying levels of wind loads, seismic loads, sea spray, and significant thermal cycling typical of Alaska. The existing systems are corroded due to weather exposure, age, and lack of maintenance and need to be replaced in six (6) NWS site locations.
