The Alessandro Ponds Optimization Phase II Project, managed by the Eastern Municipal Water District in San Jacinto, California, aims to significantly increase the recycled water storage capacity of the Alessandro Ponds facility from 172 acre-feet to 369 acre-feet. The scope of work involves the expansion of three ponds through soil excavation, deepening the pond bottoms by one to nine feet, and raising the berms by approximately three to five feet. To ensure structural integrity, the pond-facing slopes of the berms will be stabilized using soil-cement. Construction activities are expected to result in the off-site export of approximately 120,400 cubic yards of soil. The project has undergone a comprehensive environmental review process in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, resulting in a Mitigated Negative Declaration. This process included a geotechnical investigation to address seismic design and earthwork recommendations, as well as the implementation of mitigation measures to protect biological, cultural, geological, and tribal resources. The project is coordinated through the California State Clearinghouse, with technical support provided by Acorn Environmental to ensure all environmental impacts are analyzed and mitigated.
