Amendments to Establish Transit-Oriented Local Alternative Plan for SB 79

The City of Burlingame is preparing to amend its zoning code, zoning map, general plan, downtown specific plan, and north rollins specific plan to establish transit-oriented development overlay zones within a one-quarter mile radius of the Downtown Burlingame Caltrain Station, in alignment with Senate Bill 79. These amendments aim to create a Transit-Oriented Development Local Alternative Plan that will streamline development near the transit hub by encouraging higher density, mixed-use construction and reducing parking requirements to promote walkability and public transit use. The effort is part of a broader regional initiative to comply with state housing laws and will be coordinated with adjacent jurisdictions, including Millbrae, to ensure consistent policies near the BART/Caltrain interchange.
