AI Contract Overview
The United States Air Force Life Cycle Management Center has awarded a definitive contract to Symbrium, Inc. for the procurement of two azimuth gearbox spares critical to the continued operation of the GLOBUS-X radar system. These gearboxes are exact form, fit, and function replacements for aging units originally manufactured in 1993, which have experienced catastrophic failure in the past, most notably in 2018, threatening mission readiness. The gearboxes are uniquely designed to interface with the GLOBUS-X system’s azimuth bull gear and bearing assembly, featuring a specialized pinion gear that enables slower rotation with increased torque, and are not compatible with any other system due to their bespoke mechanical and electrical specifications. The procurement is driven by the necessity to sustain the GLOBUS System of Systems and must strictly adhere to technical documentation including drawing D2220940, part number QPP036M-U2-280, and the FSSM&I X-Band Pedestal Servo System Modernization document B2270320. The contract, issued under solicitation number FA8507-26-C-B002, was awarded on a competitive full and open basis without set-aside, with a period of performance of 56 weeks from award. The award falls under the authority of RFO 6.101 and is managed by the AFLCMC/ESGK-R office at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. Primary point of contact for the contract is Brandon Jones, with Jessica Roberts serving as secondary. The place of performance is Warner Robins, Georgia, and the NAICS code for this acquisition is 333612, reflecting its classification under industrial machinery manufacturing. The contract ensures the long-term operational capability of the X-Band radar by replacing non-redundant, obsolete components with newly manufactured, precision-engineered spares that meet exact original specifications.

Full Description
AFLCMC/ESGK-R hereby awards on a competitive (Full and Open) basis, a Definitive Contract for the procurement of
procurement of two (2) azimuth gearbox spares. GLOBUS-X relies on worn gearboxes (originally manufactured in 1993) with only one (1) spare. Over the course of program history, the X-Band has experienced a catastrophic failure of one (1) azimuth gearbox impacting mission execution, most recently 2018. The X-Band radar rests on a unique azimuth bull gear and associated azimuth bearing assembly that permits the radar to be rotated in azimuth direction. The azimuth gearbox also includes a unique pinon gear that aligns with the bull gear to result in slower rotation but greater torque at the bull gear's output. The operating conditions of this gearbox are specific to this system with no known compatibility with any existing or future program/system.
The United States Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) has a requirement as a part of its ongoing sustainment of the GLOBUS System of Systems. To ensure continued operational readiness of the critical GLOBUS-X radar system, this requirement is for the procurement of two (2) azimuth gearbox spares designed as direct form, fit, and function replacement for the current aging units. These custom gearboxes must precisely adhere to system specific mechanical and electrical specifications outlined in the AZ Gear Reducer Graham Sesia P/N QPP036M-U2-280 (280.42:1), RTX AZ Mod Kit drawing number D2220940, and associated drawings. Full technical specifications are detailed within the FSSM&I X-Band Pedestal Servo System Modernization document B2270320.
This acquisition will be awarded to Symbrium, Inc. (Cage Code 7ELM3). The period of performance is 56 weeks ARO. The authority for this requirement is RFO 6.101
