The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) plans to award a purchase order to The University of Arizona for specialized mineral separation and high-N zircon U-Pb geochronologic analysis combined with Lu-Hf isotopic measurements. The University of Arizona is recognized as the sole provider capable of high-throughput, simultaneous U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic analysis in split-stream mode using advanced instrumentation, ensuring high data integrity by analyzing the same zircon domains in a single workflow. This capability is essential to the scientific objectives of USGS. This procurement will follow the Federal Acquisition Regulation Part 12 for commercial products and services and is conducted under NAICS code 541380 for testing laboratories and services. The notice serves to satisfy regulatory requirements and is not a solicitation for competitive bidding, though capable parties may submit capability statements by the deadline, June 9, 2026, at 12:00 PM Eastern, via email only. The award decision will be at the government's discretion, and no solicitation will be issued. The contracting office managing this action is part of the Department of the Interior’s Office of Acquisition and Grants based in Sacramento, California, with Victor Nuno as the point of contact.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a purchase order to The University of Arizona for mineral separation, high-N zircon U-Pb geochronologic analysis, and Lu-Hf isotopic.

Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation FAR Part 12 Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services. The University of Arizona is, to the USGS knowledge, the only source that offers high-throughput, high-N zircon analysis with simultaneous Lu-Hf isotopic measurement in split-stream mode using advanced instrumentation configurations (e.g., Neoma and Element2 or Neptune and iCAP systems). This capability allows for paired U-Pb age and Lu-Hf isotopic data to be collected from the same zircon domains in a single analytical workflow, which is essential for maintaining data integrity and scientific validity.

The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.203. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a capability statement by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government.
