B--Sources Sought - Geochronology

The U.S. Geological Survey is conducting market research through a Sources Sought announcement to identify qualified businesses capable of providing specialized geochronology services for volcanic ash samples from the North Slope of Alaska, targeting zircons aged between 130 and 90 million years. The work requires mineral separation of zircon from seven bulk tephra samples, followed by geochronologic screening using laser-ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry and high-precision chemical-abrasion isotope-dilution thermal-ionization mass spectrometry analysis. Deliverables must include detailed data tables, concordia diagrams, weighted mean age plots, and comprehensive technical reports that document analytical protocols, measured isotope ratios with associated uncertainties, preferred ages, paired analyses on reference materials, and geological interpretation.
