Bay Rise Park

The Bay Rise Park project involves the redevelopment of approximately 10.2 acres of vacant land and shoreline at 410 Airport Boulevard in Burlingame, California, into a public nature and recreation park. The project scope includes the construction of an 8,600 square foot education and event center, a small take-out cafe, viewing decks, patios, and multi-purpose lawn areas. Infrastructure improvements feature 29 on-site parking spaces with a one-way driveway, enhancements to the San Francisco Bay Trail, and the addition of secondary trails and water access ramps for kayaking and board sailing. Additionally, the site will include a 20 by 30 foot accessory building for the Central County Fire Department to store rescue equipment and jet skis, as well as a trash enclosure. A primary focus of the project is the restoration of the natural tidal-marsh ecology through regrading and the planting of native species, complemented by an interpretive program demonstrating sea-level rise resiliency. The project has undergone comprehensive environmental review via an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration, addressing impacts on air quality, biological resources, and noise. Coordination has occurred with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife regarding protected species and with Caltrans concerning aviation safety and land use policies due to the site's proximity to San Francisco International Airport. The City of Burlingame serves as the lead agency, with project management support from ICF and the Sphere Institute.
