Bethany Curve Bridge Culvert Community Mosaic

The City of Santa Cruz’s Arts Division is seeking a non-profit organization or artist team, in partnership with a non-profit, to design and install a series of mosaic murals on the Bethany Curve Bridge. The project involves creating a three-sided mosaic that will be installed on the interior south and north faces, as well as the exterior north face visible from the park, making it accessible and engaging for all visitors. The selected vendor will facilitate community workshops that explore the relationship between river flow and the ocean, emphasizing local flora, fauna, and waterways, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the natural ecosystem and human impact. The murals will serve both as a visual celebration of community identity and as an educational tool to highlight the importance of maintaining clean waterways and protecting watershed health. This initiative emphasizes community involvement in the design and fabrication process, encouraging residents, including students, to develop a personal connection to the site and its ecological significance.
