BUT 70 Viaduct DO

The California Department of Transportation District 3 has initiated a Director's Order for the BUT 70 Viaduct DO project, identified by EA 03-1N550. Located on State Route 70 between post mile 35 and 36 in Parkhill, Butte County, the project is an urgent response to a slope failure caused by severe storms in December 2023. The primary objective is to construct a viaduct to stabilize the slope and prevent the complete failure of the roadway. All work and staging are required to take place within the Caltrans right-of-way. The scope of work encompasses mobilization, excavation, backfill, hauling away slide material, structure type selection and construction of the viaduct, installation of shoring, HMA, erosion control, traffic control, and other incidental work. The project is classified under NAICS code 237310. Environmental reviews have determined that the project is a categorical exclusion under NEPA and exempt under CEQA, as it involves minor alterations to an existing facility without expanding its use.
