AI Contract Overview

The contract entails conducting a detailed geotechnical study to support the installation of a 100-foot Bailey Bridge over an entrance channel to the Crescent Harbor Marsh, designed to carry a load capacity of approximately 60 tons. The scope requires the contractor to review existing geotechnical data, including three shallow borings around 20 feet deep already completed, and to perform an additional field exploration by drilling one borehole between 50 and 70 feet at the bridge site. The borehole must be logged during drilling, and soil samples collected at suitable intervals will undergo laboratory testing to determine critical design parameters such as standard penetration test results, soil densities, bearing capacity, soil friction characteristics, active and passive pressures, friction angle, cohesion, and shear strength. These parameters will inform the design of the concrete abutment structures and determine whether piling support is necessary. The final deliverable is a concise report in a standard 8-1/2 by 11-inch format, summarizing all relevant findings and recommendations for the abutment foundation design. This solicitation, designated as a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 541330, is issued by the Department of Defense’s Navfacsyscom Northwest office located in Silverdale, Washington. The work is intended to provide foundational geotechnical data critical to the safe and effective installation of the Bailey Bridge, essential for supporting heavy loads across the marsh entrance channel.
