The Department of Defense, through the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computer and Intelligence (PEO C4I), has issued an announcement releasing additional draft technical documentation related to the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) system. This release supports the design, development, and production phases of CANES, emphasizing the translation of warfighter requirements into engineering specifications. The newly available documents include the CANES Architecture Specification Version 2.1, which presents mission-driven engineering requirements in an accessible format for diverse stakeholders, and the Early Adopter Virtualization Test Reports that evaluate software application performance in virtualized environments associated with the CANES ISNS Increment 1 Common Computing Environment. The draft documentation is accessible to industry stakeholders via the PMW 160 CANES Information Workspace Portal, which requires a DoD-issued Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate for access. This announcement serves solely informational and planning purposes, clarifying that it does not constitute a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) nor a commitment by the Navy to procure any services or products. Potential contractors are encouraged to monitor designated Federal and SPAWAR websites for future updates, including any upcoming RFP issuance. Questions can be directed to the designated SPAWAR contract specialist. The Navy underscores that it will not reimburse any costs incurred in response to this announcement, and the information provided may be subject to change without obligation to the Government.
