Coastal San Luis Obispo Wildfire Resilience Public Works Plan

The Coastal San Luis Obispo Wildfire Resilience Public Works Plan project, led by the Coastal San Luis Resource Conservation District in partnership with Montrose Consulting, aims to create a comprehensive framework for streamlining vegetation management and fire prevention activities within the coastal zone of San Luis Obispo County. This Public Works Plan will serve as a permitting tool under the California Coastal Act, integrating established principles and best management practices to ensure fire resilience efforts are aligned with the protection of coastal resources. By functioning as a companion to CAL FIRE’s statewide Vegetation Treatment Program and its Programmatic Environmental Impact Report, the plan seeks to reduce regulatory delays, enhance coordination among agencies, and support consistent, science-based land management across the project area. Funding for this initiative is being supported through an exemption granted by the California State Coastal Conservancy, with the project formally announced on November 25, 2025. The effort is part of a broader strategy to improve wildfire resilience while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations. Kostoula Vallianos, Project Manager at the California State Coastal Conservancy, is the primary point of contact for all inquiries related to this initiative, and the project will be implemented entirely within the state of California. The work is designed to generate efficient, scalable procedures that enable rapid approval of vegetation treatments without compromising coastal ecological integrity.
