The Roswell Museum has served the community since its establishment in 1937 and maintains a significant collection of art, history, science, and cultural resources. In October 2024, the museum experienced a major flooding event that impacted museum facilities, collections, and archives. As the City evaluates future opportunities for the museum, there is a need for a comprehensive planning effort to identify institutional priorities, collections and exhibition requirements, visitor engagement opportunities, and operational needs. Through this project, the City seeks to develop a strategic roadmap for the future of the museum that reflects community values, supports preservation of collections, enhances visitor experiences, and establishes a framework for future development. This project is funded through a current State of New Mexico appropriation and will provide the planning foundation necessary to guide future museum-related investments and decision-making.
