Creare is developing an innovative, compact compressor designed for the efficient transfer and compression of gaseous propellants, pressurants, and expendables during complex space exploration missions. The technology focuses on isothermal compression capable of reaching pressures up to 6,000 psia while maintaining ultrahigh gas purity and high transfer rates. Phase I of the project involves proving feasibility through performance analysis, mechanical design, and proof-of-concept testing. This technology supports critical NASA initiatives, including the Gateway Space Station, Mars Transit Vehicle, and various robotic refueling and on-orbit servicing missions. Beyond government use, the compressor is intended for the commercial satellite market to enable the refueling of electric propulsion systems using xenon or krypton. This solicitation, managed by the NASA SBIR/STTR Program and performed at the Kennedy Space Center, is designated as a total small business set-aside.

Full Description

Future space exploration missions will entail extended, complex operations in space or on lunar and planetary surfaces, including many that require the efficient transfer and compression of gaseous propellant, pressurant, expendables, or products. Storage pressures may be extremely high, and gases of interest range from helium to xenon. Creare proposes to develop an innovative, compact compressor that will enable collection of essentially all the gas from the supply vessel while pressurizing to extremely high pressures (up to 6,000 psia) in the receiver. Our innovative compression and drive technology enables isothermal compression of any gas using high-reliability components that provide high rates of transfer, maintain ultrahigh gas purity, provide accurate measurement of the transfer rate, and simplify integration with spacecraft systems. In Phase I, we will prove the feasibility of our compressor through performance analysis, proof-of-concept testing, fabrication demonstrations, and mechanical design.
Benefits: NASA needs the compressor to support a wide range of space science and exploration applications, including refueling propellant systems with gaseous propellant and/or helium pressurant; extended operation, replenishment, and maintenance of life support systems; gas storage for in situ resource utilization; propellant storage and management; and refilling of oxygen tanks for frequent extravehicular activity. Missions that require the compressor include the Robotic Refueling Missions; On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing Missions; the Gateway Space Station; the Mars Transit Vehicle; and ongoing cryogenic fluid management programs. The key non-NASA application for Creare’s compressor will be refueling of gaseous propellant for the large and rapidly growing population of commercial satellites, which is expected to exceed 100,000 within a decade. Many of these satellites will use electric propulsion and xenon or krypton propellant, and they all stand to benefit from increased lifetime and/or enhanced capabilities if they could be refueled with high-pressure gas. Creare’s compressor will be an essential component of any space infrastructure developed to service and refuel these satellites.

Wilcox County Board of Commissioners (SCBA Compressor and fill station RFP)
Solicitation # PE-77234-NONST-2027-000000012
The Wilcox County Board of Commissioners is soliciting proposals for the procurement, delivery, and installation of a complete Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Compressor and Fill Station for the Wilcox County Fire Department. The scope of work requires a four-stage, air-cooled, oil-lubricated compressor from manufacturers such as Arctic, Bauer, or Mako, featuring a minimum operating pressure of 6,000 PSI and a capacity of 10 CFM. The system must include a Grade E breathing air purification system with carbon monoxide monitoring, four ASME/DOT storage cylinders with a priority fill panel, and an enclosed containment fill station meeting current NFPA requirements, including a safety interlock. The selected vendor will be responsible for the full installation, system and leak testing, operational demonstrations, air quality certification, and on-site training for personnel. Proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope labeled specifically as a sealed bid and delivered to the Commissioner's Office in Abbeville, Georgia, by 2:30 PM on November 19, 2026. Bidders must provide a GSICA Contractor affidavit, drug-free workplace certification, and equal opportunity employer certification, with minority and DBE contractors encouraged to apply. All pricing must be inclusive of shipping and remain valid for four months following the bid opening. Evaluation will be based on technical compliance and product quality, though alternate brands of equal or better quality may be proposed. The award may be issued to a single contractor or split among multiple vendors at the discretion of the Board of Commissioners.

Portable Special-Purpose High-Purity Nitrogen Generation Systems
Solicitation # N4523A27RFI0801
The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility is conducting market research via Request for Information N4523A27RFI0801 to acquire portable, special-purpose high-purity nitrogen generation systems. The government is seeking a ruggedized, turn-key solution housed within a single ISO 668 Type 1C 20-foot heavy-duty intermodal shipping container that is weather-sealed and salt-air corrosion resistant. Technical requirements specify the system must produce nitrogen with oxygen purity levels below 50 ppm, deliver pressures up to 4,500 psig, and feature a dual-mode feed air architecture, a high-pack booster compressor, and an automated supply manifold. The system must be capable of 180 days of continuous operation without scheduled servicing and 7-day autonomous operation in an unmanned outdoor shipyard environment. The contemplated acquisition strategy is an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract utilizing streamlined commercial procedures under FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 15. The government intends to procure two initial First Article Test units for qualification and NRTL inspection, followed by up to ten production units ordered via firm-fixed-price delivery orders. The scope includes on-site turnkey delivery, commissioning, operational verification at the Bremerton, Washington facility, 24 months of spare consumable parts, and optional multi-year maintenance agreements. Source selection is expected to be based on Best Value with Tradeoffs or Lowest Price Technically Acceptable, evaluating technical capability, reliability, delivery schedules, and past performance.
