Cost, Energy and Indoor Air Quality Impacts of Cooking Technology & Ventilation Choices in California Homes: The CEVICA Follow-On Study

The California Energy Commission is funding the CEVICA Follow-On Study to expand upon previous research regarding the impacts of cooking energy and ventilation on children with asthma. This project utilizes an existing participant cohort and established field infrastructure to investigate the relationships between indoor air quality, cooking practices, and ventilation. Specifically, the research focuses on how real-time air quality interventions can modify range hood usage during cooking events that generate fine particulate matter. Additionally, the study examines the perceptions and experiences of low-income households when transitioning from gas to induction electric cooking. This policy-relevant research is designed to provide deeper insights into the intersection of cooking technology and public health within California homes. The project is managed by Maninder Thind and Tim Tyner, with performance taking place across the state of California.
