The FDA plans to award a sole source contract modification to Premier, Inc. under Simplified Acquisition Procedures according to FAR Part 13, citing the unique capability of Premier as the only responsible source to meet agency requirements based on FAR 6.302-1 and 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1). The contract modification will extend the existing relationship, allowing the FDA continued access to Premier’s Perspective inpatient claims database, which supports drug utilization analysis. The anticipated period of performance runs from April 3, 2008, through September 28, 2012, including option periods, with a total contract value of approximately $1.5 million. Premier will provide additional services such as validation studies, feasibility and projection methodology studies, risk management, concomitant drug research, and training sessions for FDA employees. Premier’s inpatient drug utilization data supports the FDA’s nationwide investigations and assessments, positioning it as a critical tool for the agency’s drug safety and usage evaluations. The government expects to issue the modification within five days of the notice’s response date. Although responses are invited from all responsible sources within eight days, submission is electronic only to the designated FDA contact. This contract supports the FDA's ongoing efforts to monitor and analyze drug utilization trends and enhances their capacity to conduct in-depth drug safety evaluations and related research activities.
