The Department of Defense, through the Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive Maritime, is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential contractors capable of transporting, dismantling, de-militarizing, and disposing of the defueled ex-Long Beach (CGN 9) nuclear cruiser, including its reactor plants, within the United States. This RFI is strictly for market research and planning purposes and does not represent a solicitation for proposals or promise a future contract. Respondents are not compensated for submitting information and all costs are borne by the respondents themselves. The Government encourages participation from a broad range of contractors, including small and veteran-owned businesses, but will not accept unsolicited proposals. Information received will be treated as business sensitive and used internally to inform future procurement strategies. The Navy will host an Industry Day in mid-June 2026 to present the project requirements and conduct one-on-one sessions with interested parties, who may provide executive summaries in response to this RFI. Following the event, formal written responses including executive summaries and white papers will be collected, with deadlines set for June 15 and July 10, 2026, respectively. Responses should be sent electronically to designated points of contact within the Navy’s CVN Inactivation and Disposal Program Office. The Government may request additional information, presentations, or site visits from respondents to better evaluate capabilities. All submitted materials will remain the property of the Government and, if marked proprietary, handled in accordance with applicable regulations. The overall aim is to assess the market's ability to meet the complex requirements for safely handling and disposing of this decommissioned naval vessel and its hazardous components.
