Background Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) Ontario manages 10 National Wildlife Areas in Ontario. Two of these, Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (PEPNWA) and Big Creek National Wildlife Area (BCNWA) have also been designated as Connecting Canadians to Nature sites. Out of more than 60 National Wildlife Areas across the country only 10 have been designated as Connecting Canadians to Nature sites. These 10 sites as well as select few of the other NWAs are open to the public and provide opportunities for people to experience and connect with nature. CWS Ontario is working to improve accessibility and enhance visitors’ experiences at publicly accessible NWAs in Ontario. In 2025, a wayfinding strategy and upgrades to signage were completed at PEPNWA to improve accessibility for visitors. CWS Ontario is now looking to implement similar improvements at other publicly accessible NWAs in the province using guidance developed for PEPNWA. Objective Develop Wayfinding Strategy for Mississippi Lake National Wildlife Area (MLNWA), St Clair National Wildlife Area (SCNWA) and Big Creek National Wildlife Area (BCNWA) and complete signage designs as required based on outcomes of individual site visits and using guidance outlined in Design Brief (Appendix B) and Wayfinding Signage Design Intent (Appendix C) previously prepared for PEPNWA.
