The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is evaluating the conceptual feasibility of groundwater recharge utilizing injection wells at the Donald C Tillman Water Reclamation Plant (DCTWRP). Injection wells can provide numerous benefits for operational flexibility and groundwater adaptation that could be critical during periods of extreme wet conditions or prolonged dry conditions. LADWP plans to drill, install, develop, and test a pilot injection well at the DCTWRP, located at 6100 Woodley Avenue. This site was chosen because of favorable conditions including theoretical hydraulic response of the aquifer system and available construction and well space. The pilot will consist of two series of tests, with each series lasting up to 6 weeks. The footprint of the injection well construction project is 50 feet by 100 feet. No grading, grubbing, or tree removal will be needed. If the injection well testing demonstrates favorable aquifer response to injection, then LADWP will consider developing an approach for expansion and/or operation of an injection well. No expansion nor non-testing-oriented operation will be initiated until and unless CEQA for a specific proposed project is completed.
