DoW Melanoma Research Program Melanoma Academy Scholar Award

The Department of the Army, through the Defense Health Agency and the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is soliciting applications for the Melanoma Research Program Melanoma Academy Scholar Award. This initiative supports early career investigators who are within seven years of their initial faculty appointment, integrating them into a virtual academy designed to foster a collaborative network of productive melanoma researchers. The program emphasizes both the research and career potential of the Scholar, requiring the designation of a Career Guide with a proven track record of funding, publications, and mentorship in the melanoma field. Preliminary data are not required for application. The program expects to allot approximately 1.54 million dollars to fund two awards, with a total cost cap of 770,000 dollars per award over a maximum period of performance of three years. Funding for Career Guides is capped at 30,000 dollars per year in direct costs. Applications undergo a two-tier review process evaluating technical merit based on research strategy, environment, and presentation, followed by a programmatic review to ensure relevance to FY26 MRP focus areas and military health. Eligible extramural and intramural organizations must submit full applications by October 14, 2026, via Grants.gov or eBRAP, ensuring active registration in SAM.gov.
