Early Draft Benchmark Release HPC-4

The Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has released an early draft of system benchmarks intended to guide the procurement of their next-generation supercomputer, referred to as HPC-4. These benchmarks are in a preliminary state and may be revised before the official Request for Information (RFI) or Request for Proposal (RFP) is issued. The early availability of these draft benchmarks is designed to give the high-performance computing industry ample time to prepare comprehensive benchmark results in anticipation of a possible future solicitation. This release is classified as a special notice and does not currently invite questions, feedback, or responses. The procurement effort is managed through the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, located in Golden, Colorado, which is also the site for the supercomputer’s place of performance. The official benchmarks and any formal procurement documents will be made available with the eventual release of an RFP, ensuring that vendors can align their proposals specifically with the finalized technical requirements.
