The contract involves the expansion of the East Side fiber network in Aurora, Illinois, which currently includes approximately 22.65 miles of conduit with three innerducts. The City of Aurora plans to increase the network's capacity by installing additional fiber strands into one of these innerducts, addressing the near-capacity limitation of the existing 144-count fiber ring. This expansion is supported by a $2 million grant awarded in 2025 by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), aimed at enhancing fiber capacity on the east side of the Fox River within city limits. The upgrade will utilize an 864-count fiber to maximize the fill of the existing 1.25-inch poly duct. The solicitation for this project was posted on May 29, 2026, under the title "East Side Fiber Expansion" with a response deadline of June 17, 2026. The contracting agency is the Information Technology office for the City of Aurora, Illinois, classified under State, Local, and Education (SLED) organization types. Key contacts include Jeff Anderson, Deputy CIO, and the Purchasing Department, both available for inquiries. The project aims to support future fiber installations by increasing capacity and ensuring the network can accommodate growing demand for fiber connectivity in the area.

Full Description

The East Side of the City's fiber network contains approximately 22.65 miles of conduit containing 3 innerducts. The City desires to expand the capacity of the East Side network by installing fiber into one of the 3 innerducts. In 2025, the City Council accepted a $2 million grant award from the Illinois DCEO to expand the capacity of the City's fiber network on the east side of the Fox River within the City limits. More fiber strands are needed as the existing 144ct ring is nearing max fiber capacity (no fibers available for new installations). The 864ct will provide max fill of the existing 1.25" poly duct available for install.
