ESCC - MA - Coroner Removals Service

East Sussex County Council is seeking bids from qualified providers to deliver Coroner Removals Services within the East Sussex Coroner Area. The scope of work involves the removal of bodies in instances where a death has been referred to H.M. Coroner. As this is a demand-led service, the contractor must maintain sufficient operational resources to provide coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, as the Council cannot guarantee specific volumes or times of service. The contract is estimated to have a total value of £600,000 excluding VAT and is scheduled to run for an initial three-year term from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030, with an option to extend for an additional 24 months, potentially lasting until 31 March 2032. To qualify, providers must ensure all attendants hold an up-to-date and approved Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Additionally, contractors must possess or commit to obtaining minimum insurance coverage of £10,000,000 for both Employers Liability and Public Liability. The contract award will be based on the most economically advantageous tender, utilizing a weighted evaluation of 60% quality and 40% price. Interested parties must submit their electronic tenders in English via the specified portal by the deadline of 20 October 2026 at 11:00 am. The Council also notes that the contract may require novation or modification in the event of local government reorganization or boundary changes.
