On May 18, 2017, Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (FPI) posted a notice in the Federal Business Opportunities FedBizOpps). In this notice, FPI announced its proposal to offer Medical testing kits to Federal Bureau of Prisons and other federal civilian agencies as a new, competitive product. Medical testing kits are classified under Federal Stock Classification (FSC) 6550 In Vitro Diagnostic Substances, Reagents, Test Kits and Sets. FPI will be competing for business in the federal market, without invoking its mandatory source. FPI received no comments from any interested party regarding this proposed production, within the 30 days allowed. Therefore, the FPI Board of Directors has approved FPI to offer Medical Testing Kits classified under Federal Stock Classification (FSC) 6550 In Vitro Diagnostic Substances, Reagents, Test Kits and Sets.
