Fort Pitt Park Mine Stabilization

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works seeks a construction specialist to stabilize an area of underground mine below a public park / football field preceding renovation of the park. The contractor will stabilize the subsurface strata by grouting at mine level such that differential settlements and/or extensive subsidence due to the future collapse of mined-out coal seam in the area of the proposed construction is minimized or eliminated. The Contractor bidding for this work shall submit proof of at least five (5) projects successfully completed in the last three (3) years involving mine stabilization. A brief description of each project with the Owner's name and current phone number shall be included. The scope of work includes the furnishing of all labor, plant, power equipment and performing all operations in connection with survey and stakeout, drilling grout holes, handling, transporting, storing, mixing, and injecting the grouting materials, care and disposal of drill cuttings, waste water and waste grout, clean-up of the area upon completion of the work and all such other operations as are incidental to grouting as specified herein. The purchase and delivery of materials to the site will be the responsibility of the Contractor. See the attached specifications and grouting plan for more detail. This work is part of a renovation of Fort Pitt Park. The stabilization will ensure that the park does not experience subsidence or other impacts of the underground mine. Work is planned to start as soon as the Garfield Gators finish their football season and immediately preceding the renovation of the park in late Fall / early Winter 2026. The mine stabilization contractor will be expected to coordinate with the City and the General Contractor for the park renovation as needed.
