FY26-DDOT-IPMA-Metropolitan Branch Trail - Blair Rd to Piney Branch Rd NW

The contract encompasses the comprehensive engineering design for a multi-use trail extending from Blair Road and Aspen Street NW at its southern terminus to the intersection of Piney Branch Road and Eastern Avenue NW at its northern end, reconnecting two previously segmented sections of the Metropolitan Branch Trail along its western alignment as outlined in the Concept Plan. The scope is extensive, covering all phases of project development including project management, coordination with multiple agencies, and active public engagement to ensure community input is integrated. Technical services include surveying and mapping, right-of-way acquisition support, traffic and utility analyses, geotechnical investigations, and detailed trail and structural design. The project also requires complete stormwater management and sediment control systems, traffic control plans, signing and pavement markings, lighting, and full landscaping integration to meet environmental and aesthetic standards. Cost estimation, construction specifications, and rigorous quality assurance and quality control protocols are mandated to ensure regulatory compliance and long-term durability. The effort is part of a broader initiative by the District Department of Transportation to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and active transportation infrastructure in the city.
