The National Human Genome Research Institute, under the National Institutes of Health, is soliciting applications for solicitation RFA-HG-27-009 to establish interaction centers focused on studying how genetic and environmental interactions influence genomic variant impact. Selected centers are required to develop a research framework to investigate non-additive modifiers, experimentally test variant combinations, and share their findings, data, and predictive methodologies through the Impact of Genomic Variation on Function portal and catalog. This initiative aims to improve the prediction of critical interactions, enhance the understanding of genome-wide association studies, and refine polygenic scores. As members of the IGVF Consortium, participating centers must collaborate to ensure resources remain accessible and coordinate on assays, variants, and cell types to develop unified analysis strategies. Interested parties must submit their applications by the response deadline of December 15, 2026. This federal opportunity emphasizes a combination of original research and resource development to map the interaction landscape of genomic variation.

General Info

Full Description

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to solicit applications to study the effects of genetic or environmental interactions on genomic variant impact. To accomplish this, interaction centers will first propose a research framework to investigate whether interactions with effects beyond additive are important modifiers of the impact of variants. Centers will apply their framework to experimentally test combinations for interactions and share their data as well as analyses through the Impact of Genomic Variation on Function (IGVF) portal and catalog. Centers will share their method for predicting the most important combinations for future testing. The rationale for this combination of research and resource work is the identification of a structure within the interaction landscape might result in better predictions of the most important interactions to test, leading to more effective variant testing, better understanding of genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and improved polygenic scores. As IGVF Consortium members, centers will work together to ensure all consortium resources are accessible to a wide variety of potential users. Centers are also expected to collaborate with other consortium components to coordinate assays, variants, and cell types, and to develop shared analysis strategies to meet consortium goals.

Pilot Projects to Enhance the Human Virome Program (R03 Clinical Trials Not Allowed)
Solicitation # RFA-RM-27-024
The National Institutes of Health, administered by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, is soliciting applications for Pilot Projects to Enhance the Human Virome Program under solicitation RFA-RM-27-024. This initiative seeks to support small pilot projects that characterize the healthy human virome and develop tools, models, and methods to study its composition and influence on health and disease. Eligible applicants include small businesses and other for-profit organizations, with a strong encouragement for those outside the current Human Virome Program consortium to apply. The program intends to commit approximately 2 million dollars in FY2027, with individual award direct costs capped at 100,000 dollars per year. Applications are due by November 10, 2026, for a potential July 2027 start date, or October 22, 2027, for a potential July 2028 start date. Awards are granted based on scientific and technical merit evaluated through the NIH peer review system, focusing on the importance of the research, rigor and feasibility of the approach, and the expertise of the investigators and their environment. Successful projects must produce unbiased, reproducible data and validated tools while adhering to strict regulatory standards, including 45 CFR Part 46 for human subject protections and various federal cybersecurity requirements, such as multifactor authentication and 48-hour incident notification. Applicants must maintain active registrations in the System for Award Management, eRA Commons, and Grants.gov, and all Principal Investigators must be registered with ORCID. Compliance with intellectual property management under Executive Order 10096 and federal regulations 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200 is mandatory.

Pre-solicitation Notice: On-Ramp for the Department of Defense OMNIBUS IV Multiple-Award Contract
Solicitation # HT942626RE002
The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity is issuing a pre-solicitation notice for an on-ramp to the OMNIBUS IV Multiple Award, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicle. This initiative aims to expand the pool of eligible contractors providing military medical research and development services, including laboratory and technical support, regulatory process expertise, and translational science services. The eventual Request for Proposal will be set aside exclusively for small businesses certified under the Small Business Administration 8(a) Program. Due to the need to implement recent FAR Overhaul guidance, the anticipated posting timeframe for the solicitation has been extended to late September 2026. The OMNIBUS IV vehicle operates with a base ordering period from June 20, 2022, through June 19, 2027, and an option ordering period extending to June 19, 2032. It features a cumulative ceiling of 10 billion dollars, with over 630 million dollars already awarded across 55 task orders to various end users, including the Naval Supply Systems Command and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. New awards from this on-ramp will align with the existing unrestricted vehicle. Prospective offerors must be registered in SAM.gov and will be required to submit proposals through the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment solicitation module once the formal RFP is released.
