Girvan over Olney Creek Bridge Replacement Project

The City of Redding is undertaking the Girvan Road Bridge Replacement Project (solicitation 2025071047) to replace the existing 1960 bridge over Olney Creek in Shasta County, California. The project aims to enhance hydraulic capacity and safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists by replacing the current 32-foot wide, 100-foot long structure with a new 52-foot wide, 109-foot long three-span continuous concrete slab bridge. The new design will feature two 12-foot lanes, 8-foot shoulders, and 6-foot sidewalks, along with ADA-compliant curbs, gutters, ramps, and lighting improvements. Construction is scheduled to take place over two seasons from 2027 through 2028, utilizing a phased approach where one side of the bridge is reconstructed each year. To maintain traffic flow, a single lane of alternating traffic will be managed via temporary signals. Environmental compliance is a critical component of the project, governed by a Mitigated Negative Declaration under CEQA. Key requirements include limiting in-stream work to the dry season between June 1 and October 31, conducting pre-construction biological surveys, and implementing fish relocation and riparian habitat monitoring.
