Grant School Demolition, Hazardous Materials Abatement, & Site Clearance Project

The Grant School Demolition, Hazardous Materials Abatement, and Site Clearance Project is an emergency initiative by the Vallejo City Unified School District to address hazardous conditions at 740 Fifth Street, Vallejo, California. The project involves the emergency demolition and removal of vacant, deteriorated former school buildings and play structures, along with associated hazardous materials abatement and site clearance. These actions are necessary to eliminate threats to public health and safety caused by structural deterioration, vandalism, and fire damage, thereby protecting students, employees, emergency responders, and the surrounding community. The scope of work includes the demolition of existing structures, hazardous materials abatement, removal of debris and foundations, utility disconnection, and general site restoration and stabilization. Under Resolution No. 5160, the project has been granted exemptions from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) via the statutory emergency exemption, the common sense exemption, and the Class 1 categorical exemption. Ruben Fernandez, the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, serves as the primary point of contact for the project.
