Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program

The Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program, administered by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Department of Agriculture, provides approximately 30.6 million dollars in funding to strengthen the capacity of HSIs to deliver education, applied research, and community development programs in food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences. Individual awards range from 25,000 dollars to 1.2 million dollars, with specific bridge grants available between 100,000 and 200,000 dollars. Eligible institutions must maintain at least 25 percent undergraduate full-time Hispanic enrollment and meet specific federal criteria regarding accreditation, need-based assistance, and expenditure levels. While only HSIs may apply, the funded projects must benefit the entire institutional population rather than exclusively the Hispanic population. Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by December 3, 2026, and must reflect a 48-month project period. The evaluation process consists of an initial administrative screening followed by a scientific peer-review based on five equally weighted criteria: potential for advancing education quality, proposed approach and cooperative linkages, institutional capability, qualifications of key personnel, and budget cost-effectiveness. Required documentation includes a project narrative limited to 20 double-spaced pages, a data management plan, a two-page mentoring plan, and a certification letter signed by the institution's Authorized Representative.
