AI Contract Overview
The Institutional Development Award (IDeA) for Clinical & Translational Research (CTR) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in states that have traditionally received low levels of NIH funding, known as IDeA states. This initiative offers support through two tracks designed to bolster clinical and translational research capabilities focused on diseases and health challenges prevalent in these regions. The Clinical and Translational Research Development (CTR-D) track targets workforce development and infrastructure improvements at health research organizations within IDeA states that currently have limited clinical research capacity. Meanwhile, the Clinical & Translational Research Network (CTR-N) track facilitates the formation and expansion of statewide or multi-state networks of health research organizations. These networks work to strengthen existing infrastructure, cultivate a skilled research workforce, and coordinate clinical research activities within and across IDeA states. Both tracks are managed by the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, with support and communication facilitated through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). The program was posted as a funding opportunity in November 2025 and continues to invite participation from eligible organizations aiming to build a more competitive and collaborative clinical research environment in historically underfunded regions.
