The Government has issued an announcement to provide advanced planning information to the Robotics Technology Consortium and the broader industry regarding upcoming opportunities for research projects in Ground Robotics. This announcement is not a solicitation for project proposals nor an indication of an immediate project award, but rather a notification of intent to release a Request for Project Proposals (RPP) under an Other Transaction Agreement. The Government previously established this agreement with a single consortium, the Robotics Technology Consortium, formed after an Industry Day in January 2008. The upcoming RPP will seek project proposals focused on various Ground Robotics research areas, including a newly identified area called Robust Traversability in Complex Terrain. The Request for Project Proposals will be disseminated through the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, the administrative agent of the Robotics Technology Consortium, who will then distribute it to consortium members. Multiple project awards are expected to be made based on the proposals received. This initiative is managed by the Department of Defense, specifically an office located at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Robotics Technology Consortium website to learn more about membership and participation opportunities. This announcement highlights the Government’s continued support for Ground Robotics research and development through collaborative efforts with industry consortia.

This is not a Request for Project Proposals, but for planning purposes only. Aproject award will not be awarded from this announcement. The Government intends to announce a Request for Project Proposals for execution of a project award in support of Ground Robotics related research areas. The purpose of this announcement is to provide members of the Robotics Technology Consortium, and industry in general, advanced notification of Government intent. In December 2007, the Government announced its intent to enter into an Other Transaction Agreement with one (1) consortium in support of Ground Robotics related Research and Development projects. As a result of the Ground Robotics Industry Day in January 2008, one (1) consortium formed, the Robotics Technology Consortium. It is the intent of the Government to make multiple project awards to the members of the Robotics Technology Consortium as a result of member project proposals submitted via the Request for Project Proposals. The following is another research area in addition to the eight (8) research areas which were recently announced: Robust Traversability in Complex Terrain. The Request for Project Proposals (W15QKN-08-9-0001-RPP15) will be issued to the Robotics Technology Consortiums Administrative Agent, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, who will then issue the request to the members of the Consortium.
