The government has issued an announcement to provide advanced notification for an upcoming Request for Project Proposals (RPP) related to Ground Robotics research. This announcement is not a solicitation for project proposals itself but serves to inform members of the Robotics Technology Consortium and the broader industry about the intent to award multiple projects supporting research and development in ground robotics. Previously, in December 2007, the government expressed its plan to enter into an Other Transaction Agreement with a single consortium, which led to the formation of the Robotics Technology Consortium following an industry day held in January 2008. Project proposals will be sought through the upcoming RPP, which will cover research areas including Counter Tunnel Exploitation, Mapping and Characterization; Maritime Interdiction Operations; and Long Range Obstacle Detection, with two new research areas recently added. The RPP, designated W15QKN-08-9-0001-RPP12, will be issued to the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, the administrative agent of the Robotics Technology Consortium, who will then distribute the request to consortium members. The Department of Defense is overseeing this initiative from its Picatinny Arsenal location in New Jersey. This structured approach is intended to leverage the consortium's collective expertise and facilitate targeted advancements in robotics technology aligned with defense objectives. Additional information about the Robotics Technology Consortium and membership details are available on their official website, ensuring interested parties can participate in future opportunities once the formal solicitation is released.

The Government intends to announce a Request for Project Proposals for execution of a project award in support of Ground Robotics related research areas. The purpose of this announcement is to provide members of the Robotics Technology Consortium, and industry in general, advanced notification of Government intent. In December 2007, the Government announced its intent to enter into an Other Transaction Agreement with one (1) consortium in support of Ground Robotics related Research and Development projects. As a result of the Ground Robotics Industry Day in January 2008, one (1) consortium formed, the Robotics Technology Consortium. It is the intent of the Government to make multiple project awards to the members of the Robotics Technology Consortium as a result of member project proposals submitted via the Request for Project Proposals. NOTE THAT TWO ADDITIONAL RESEARCH AREAS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO RPP #12. The anticipated Research Areas for which project proposals will be sought is as follows: (1) Counter Tunnel Exploitation, Mapping, and Characterization; (2) Maritime Interdiction Operations; (3) Long Range Obstacle Detection. The Request for Project Proposals (W15QKN-08-9-0001-RPP12) will be issued to the Robotics Technology Consortiums Administrative Agent, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, who will then issue the request to the members of the Consortium.
