THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR BIDS, QUOTES OR PROPOSALS. At this time no solicitation exists. This notification is being posted for information purposes only. This procurement action is for the acquisition of services and purchase of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) spare parts for the emergency repair of the Super Orlof Intaglio (SOI) Press equipment used by BEP for currency manufacturing. All spare parts required are manufactured and are proprietary to Koenig & Bauer (K&B). There are no other sources that are capable of supplying the required OEM spare parts other than K&B. Additionally, K&B possess the technical knowledge and expertise to repair the aforementioned equipment since K&B is the manufacturer of the SOI. BEP does not possess the required capabilities in terms of labor, machinery or materials to produce these items and the technical know-how to perform the necessary repair. Therefore, the Government has determined that this procurement can only be acquired from the OEM contractor, K&B. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) intends to sole-source this requirement and award to K&B. The applicable North American Classification Code (NAICS) is 811310, Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment (except Automotive and Electronic) Repair and Maintenance. This Notice of Intent is NOT a request for competitive quotes. If you feel your firm can provide all the spare parts in the attached list, please submit a capability statement by 4:00PM EDT, December 15, 2023. The decision not to compete this requirement is within the discretion of the Government. Any response to this notice must provide clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous to the Government. The Government may consider all capability statements received for future requirement. POC is Ramon Ramos, Contract Specialist, ramon.ramos@bep.gov. No telephone calls will be accepted for this action.

Interested parties are requested to submit preliminary samples and brief technical descriptions to the BEP R&D technical lead, Chris Dollberg, at the Washington, D.C. office. Responses must be submitted no later than 2:00 PM Eastern Time on November 15, 2026. Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Request for Information (RFI) - R&D Overt Security Features - FY26
Solicitation # 2031ZA26N00006
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), a division of the Department of the Treasury, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding research and development for overt security features for future U.S. currency. This market research initiative seeks to identify novel, counterfeit-deterrent technologies and materials that are easy for the general public to authenticate under various lighting conditions without the need for external devices. The desired features must be difficult to simulate through traditional printing, digital reproduction, or commercially available materials and may be incorporated into the banknote substrate, inks, or applied directly to the note. This RFI is for informational planning purposes only and does not constitute a formal solicitation or a commitment to enter into a contract. Interested parties are required to submit preliminary samples and a brief technical description to the BEP R&D technical lead, Chris Dollberg, by the deadline of November 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM EST. Submissions will be evaluated based on their inherent effectiveness, compatibility with production factors, durability, environmental acceptability, and processing requirements. Respondents are responsible for all costs incurred during this process, and the government will not pay for any information or administrative expenses. Additionally, respondents must ensure that no proprietary, classified, or sensitive information is included in their responses, as the government reserves the right to use non-proprietary technical information in future solicitations.
