The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) intends to award a sole source contract to Boston Micromachines Corporation for the procurement of a 137-actuator Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) Deformable Mirror (DM) to support advanced research and development in Electro-Optical/Infrared sensing capabilities for hypersonics at the KHILS Laboratory located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The sole source acquisition is justified by the fact that Boston Micromachines is the only known supplier capable of meeting the specialized technical requirements outlined in the attached Minimum Requirements Document. This action is in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation guidelines and reflects the necessity of securing this critical technology without competition. Interested parties other than Boston Micromachines may submit capability statements, quotations, or exceptions to the sole source intent via email by June 18, 2026, to be considered for potential competition; however, this notice is not a request for competitive proposals. Correspondence should follow specific email formatting instructions to ensure proper filtering and receipt at the Wright-Patterson AFB office administering the contract. The procurement is categorized under NAICS Code 333310 for Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing, and will be managed by AFRL’s office at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, with the place of performance designated as Goulds, Florida.
