WIB UPDATE (3/16/21): FEAD to request AHU replacement as base contract and addition of AC as an option. Discuss again once accurate costs are known. Two air handlers (#1 & #2) service the gym. Both air handlers are over 30 years old and need to be replaced. They are currently heat only (steam). One unit (#2) has been inop for a year and both steam coils are patched beyond repair. A request was made for air conditioning to be added for the gym (it is the only location in the building without it). The gym is approx. 25,000 sq ft. so a chiller would most likely be necessary. There is no access for easy removal/replacement, meaning that the wall (most likely the north wall) will need to be opened up (making concurrent replacement more economical). In the current fiscal environment, there is question as to whether or not the addition of AC is warranted. However, if it is to be added, this would be the time to do it. Ensure technicians working on this equipment have Section 608 certifications. Any recovered R22 materials must be returned to Shops and removing these materials off-site is prohibited. An "Appliance" or "Chiller" form must be completed and returned to EV for "old" chillers and equipment scheduled for disposal. Conduct NEPA review. APM Comments: Suspect hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, etc.) not previously tested must be tested prior to disturbance or handled as such. Contact the APM for historical hazmat report ...
