Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Open Space Maintenance and Restoration Program

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is implementing the Open Space Maintenance and Restoration Program in San Mateo County, California. Under the amended Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-SMO-22941-R3, the project adds a specific streambed alteration involving the construction of a 16-foot elevated boardwalk, or puncheon, across an unnamed ephemeral channel that drains into Steven’s Creek Reservoir. This work is designed to provide access to a multiuse trail and will involve excavating approximately one cubic yard of material using hand tools and small equipment such as a mini excavator or skidsteer. The project is governed by California Fish and Game Code section 1602 and the California Environmental Quality Act. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife serves as the Responsible Agency and issued a Notice of Determination on July 11, 2025, concluding that the project will not have a significant environmental effect within its jurisdiction. While mitigation measures have been imposed, no formal Mitigation Reporting or Monitoring Plan was adopted.
