The MK 5 Velocimeter is a single unit that consists of an antenna, RF transmitter, receiver, and electronics required to measure and process muzzle velocity of the fired 5-inch projectile. It is mounted externally on the non-recoiling section of the MK 46 GWS barrel, to measure and provide muzzle Initial Velocities (IVs) of the fired projectiles to the GCS via a bi-directional RS-232 serial link.
