Modoc Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project-Phase 3 Countywide Defensible Space Program

The Modoc Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project - Phase 3 Countywide Defensible Space Program is a no-cost hazardous fuels reduction initiative managed by the Modoc Resource Conservation District in partnership with the Modoc Fire Safe Council. This program is a continuation of a long-standing effort to provide defensible space treatments for residential properties located within Wildland-Urban Interface areas throughout Modoc County. The project aims to mitigate wildfire risk by treating approximately 50 acres of land, creating up to 100 feet of defensible space around habitable structures. Specific activities include the removal of ladder fuels, vegetation trimming, and the disposal of flammable debris to slow wildfire spread, reduce flame intensity, and ensure safer access for emergency responders. The project will be implemented across various residential parcels in several Modoc County communities, including Alturas, Adin, Canby, Cedarville, Davis Creek, Eagleville, Fort Bidwell, Lake City, Likely, Lookout, and New Pine Creek. Funding for the implementation of this program is being sought through the Sierra Nevada Conservancy Wildfire and Forest Resilience Grant Program. Administratively, the project has been granted a Categorical Exemption under CEQA Section 15304(i), Class 4, as it involves minor land alterations for fuel management purposes.
