The New Generation Army Targetry System (NGATS) Component Acceptance Test Cell became operational on February 2, 2004, under the oversight of the Army Targets Management Office. This initiative invites manufacturers of target hardware, battlefield effects simulators, and target scoring systems intended for live fire ranges to submit their products for qualification testing. The NGATS program aims to replace existing target systems with families of interchangeable components designed to enhance performance while reducing life cycle costs. The system will be implemented incrementally through blocks, beginning with Block I scheduled for deployment in late fiscal year 2006, with later blocks to follow as determined. The qualification process is governed by Federal Acquisition Regulation requirements, with the government actively seeking products for inclusion in the NGATS qualification program. The prime contract award requiring qualified components is anticipated around mid-fiscal year 2005. Manufacturers must adhere to detailed documentation as outlined in the Interface Control Documents and Specifications before testing begins. The program utilizes a bailment agreement for equipment transfer and commits to timely notification of qualification results. Additional program details and submission requirements are accessible through the NGATS program website maintained by the Department of Defense at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
