NASA faces a credible risk of losing critical space-to-ground communications for key on-orbit missions beginning in the CY2029 to 2031 timeframe due to the aging Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) System and the absence of backward-compatible commercial alternatives. The Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program and its Communications Services Project (CSP) Suproject "NEXUS", is is issuing this solicitation to advance Ka band backward compatible relay capabilities without replicating existing commercial services.
